The City of Wamego Police Department is seeking mature,
motivated individuals who would like the unique opportunity to participate
in the Reserve Police Officer Program.
The City of Wamego Police Department Reserve Program offers
exciting and challenging training and hands on professional experience.
It is extremely demanding and designed to be of the highest professional
standards. If you are a mature focused individual who is looking at a
career in law enforcement and or criminal justice, the experience of being
a Reserve Officer can help put your future one step closer to a reality.

Qualifications
Age:
Applicant must be at least 21 years of age and under the age of 60. (An
applicant over the age of 60 will be considered if special qualifications
exhibited are adaptable to police work.) Education:
Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED.
Residence:
Applicants must be citizens of the United States and a legal resident
of Kansas.
Character:
An applicants character must be above reproach. His/Her record is checked
both locally and with the F.B.I. before appointment. The applicant must
never have been convicted of a criminal offense and must have a good driving
record. (Minor traffic violations do not apply.) Health:
Good physical condition is a must. An applicant may be required to complete
a physical examination certifying himself/ herself as physically capable
of performing required duties. Appearance:
Applicants must be clean cut, alert, and have the ability to wear a uniform
in an approved manner.
Licenses:
Applicant must have a valid Kansas drivers license. If you have previously
been in the armed forces you will be required to furnish proof of an honorable
discharge and a copy of your service record.
Time Required ed of All Reserve Officers:
1. Attend classes deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
2. Attend all Reserve Department meetings, usually held during an evening
at a preset time once a month.
3. Complete 16 hours of riding time a month with a full or part-time Police
Officer.
4. Attend and successfully complete the next available part-time Police
Academy recognized by the state of Kansas, which is usually held January
through mid March of each year.
Benefits:
No experience needed - Full training provided through a 120 + hour state
certified part time Police Academy. Additional hands on training and experience
for all patrol officer duties.
Uniform and ballistic vests, if available, are issued.
Officers must provide their own handgun that meets Police Department regulations.Leather
gear can be issued if available or individually owned equipment can be
approved.
Advanced anced Employment Opportunities:
Since 1997 more than 80% of all Wamego Police Department
part-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department.
Since 1997 more than 85% of all Wamego Police Department
full-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department.
Many of the officers of the Wamego Police Department Reserve
Program have gone on to work for the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Department,
Riley County Police Department, Junction City Police Department and the
U.S. Border Patrol.
Applications for the Wamego Police Department Reserve Program
are due by November 1st of each year to be included in the January - March
Police Academy.
